Risks of APCT

Using GPAT, the prevalence of strongyloidiasis in rural northeastern Thailand was estimated to be 38.7%, higher than ELISA’s 27.7%. However, this test was not the only means by which the disease is diagnosed. Other techniques like a stool examination and coprodiagnosis were employed.

GPAT is a relatively new technique and it is not yet widely available to a wide population. The good news is that GPAT has been found to produce correct results for all fecal sample-positive individuals. This is a huge benefit compared to other methods. Moreover, the GPAT is much cheaper and has a high degree of reliability.

Background

There are limited data on the background of APCT use in the ED setting. However, these studies do show that the rate of APCT use is increasing. Despite this, more research is necessary to identify and study low-risk patients.
