Arsenal came from behind twice before scoring two late goals to defeat Aston Villa 4-2 at Villa Park. This victory marked their 12th win in 14 games and kept them atop of the table.
They are making progress and now prepare to face Manchester United before facing off against Manchester City in a crucial series of matches. With all eyes on winning the Premier League title, this game is of vital importance.
Goals
Arsenal rallied from two goals down before winning in stoppage time at Villa Park. This ended their three-game skid and lifted them above Manchester City again after their midweek loss.
In second-half stoppage time, Jorginho’s shot from outside the area deflected off Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez and went into the net to give Arsenal a 3-2 lead. Substitute Gabriel Martinelli then raced clear to score as Villa sought an equaliser.
Arsenal have now won 12 games in a row and snapped their three-game losing streak. As such, they have returned to top spot on the table; however Manchester City remain on the edge of it and could still catch them with one game left to play.
Before the break, Aston Villa had an opportunity to take the lead when Ollie Watkins burst into the box and fired past Aaron Ramsdale. But it was Arsenal who scored first after the break – Olivier Giroud steering a header into the far corner from a Walcott corner kick.
Goalkeeper
No goals were scored in extra time as Arsenal secured a victory that returned them to the top of the table. Martin Odegaard’s second-half brace gave Arsenal their 12th straight victory, their best start since 2003/04.
Even with its 2-2 draw, this match was one of the most thrilling in the league this season. And it could have ended up that way until Arsenal scored in stoppage time to seal victory.
Aaron Ramsdale made an incredible save to block a header from Gabriel Martinez in the 98th minute, but was then caught by a glancing header from a corner. It will remain an iconic moment in both fans’ and players’ memories.
Mikel Arteta has two primary goalkeepers – Aaron Ramsdale and Matt Turner – who will likely start most of his team’s Premier League games this season. Additionally, he may use Ramsdale for some cup competitions as well.

Referee
On Sunday’s north London derby, referee Craig Pawson presided over proceedings. As the man in charge when Arsenal comfortably beat Tottenham 3-1 at the Emirates back in September 2021, Pawson has officiated seven Premier League matches this season and boasts some of the most experienced officials in England.
West Ham took an early lead at the Emirates Stadium due to Said Benrahma’s penalty kick after William Saliba’s foul on Jarrod Bowen, but Mikel Arteta’s side responded quickly with Bukayo Saka equalising in the 53rd minute and Gabriel Martinelli scoring an own goal in stoppage time to secure an incredible victory for Arsenal.
It was a critical game for both teams, with the title race on the line. Arsenal were in danger of dropping out until their second-half comeback. Now they will look to score another goal when they travel to Manchester City on Wednesday.
