Marikana murder charges dropped? for now, but stay alert

Marikana murder charges dropped? for now, but stay alert

According to the BBC, the murder charges against striking Marikana platinum miners have been dropped. Regardless, we must oppose any and all charges against the strikers and demand – hands off the miners!

“South African prosecutors have provisionally dropped murder charges against 270
miners whose colleagues were shot dead by police.”  Note the word “provisionally” –prosecutors have reserved the right to reinstate charges after an investigation. (and, of course, after world opinion has calmed down and moved on.)

“State prosecutors charged 270 miners with murder under the “common purpose” doctrine. The rule was used by the white-minority apartheid regime to crack down on its black opponents, and at the time was opposed by the now governing African National Congress.”

Our solidarity is with the workers of South Africa!

No charges! No prosecutions!
